Entry 371; Day 389

In looking back through a great many of my Network entries, I really do say this most every time there's an especially bad curse that hasn't struck me: pay some attention. If one actually pays a little attention to the Network, or even just outside in the streets, one can get a fair idea of what's going on if there's a curse. Yes, I know, sometimes the details of it aren't clear at first, but when three or four entries on the Network come up and in each one someone is bleeding far too much, perhaps it would do one well to pay a little attention and put down the scissors or the knife or the sword.

I used to be shocked at hearing someone had died in the City, even knowing that they'd resurrect within a day. There were murders, there were fights, there was nearly a war, and there are the curses as ever. But, really, when everyone in the City is fairly bleeding to death by accident or by stupidity, I almost shouldn't be surprised. Or perhaps I should be surprised that people aren't dropping dead left and right.

Falling ill to the Black Death when it was in the City is one thing, being captured by a group of mad and cursed witch hunters is the same, but nearly bleeding to death because of stubbornness and stupidity is almost its own punishment.

For all I know, I was struck by that curse but I had sense enough not to cut myself. There's no post here, so I wouldn't have gotten a paper cut--and I don't count being mailed an eyeball a proper package either. I don't cook, so there's no risk of injury there--and, really, who would want to eat something prepared by someone who's bled in the food? And I've sense enough not to carry about a sword in plain sight--I hardly count the one in my walking stick-- It's just like the curse of blindness from a week ago: apparently the way to fight against the curses is just to ignore them, despite what risks might be in that. It's more stupidity than a fight. If you're trying to stave off misery, since that's the point of all this, or so we think, I somehow doubt that stumbling about blind or bleeding out of spite is the way to keep from being miserable.

And I'm not even concerned about saying these things publicly anymore. I almost want to take my chances. There's no such things as bad luck or fate, so I'm not tempting either. The 'deities' might hear me and throw a curse on me, but so be it. I've endured two years of this now. I think can endure one more curse.

I wonder if anyone knows or remembers anymore that, in dying in the City, one is trapped in the City forever. That was key to some of my plans--even though they never came to pass and that was a long time ago.

Of course, when there is a death--especially a murder--anymore, there's no word of it. I delivered that eyeball and I've heard nothing more. I know I'm not a member of the police, but I would like to know if there's been any developments in that investigation.

I'm tired of staying in. I think the weather is starting to wear at me. Megumi, I know we had plans for later this month--let's please keep them. And I think I'm going to go out myself for a while. It's been a long time since I've been able or wanted to go out wandering the City. I've been letting my collection languish again-- So I'm going out tonight--when and where I please.

[ooc: Sorry I've been so gone lately. Between the holidays, the start of the semester, and a handful of (amazingly awesome and fun and very distracting) visitors in the house, posting has been a little tricky of late. But don't worry! I think I'm back on my game now :3 Also, Cain will be dreaming tomorrow, so watch for his post. Anyone can visit and talk to him in his dream, but, alas, no, no one can change it.]

Was this just a temporary incident or are there actually people like that still around?

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
It was a curse. If you weren't here for it, you ought to consider yourself fortunate.

[identity profile] orbo-knight.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
It's not myself I'm worried about.

Is it likely to repeat then? Or do they usually just remain a one time incident?

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
It's entirely possible that it could repeat, but there's no certainty about it.

I take it that you must be a newcomer.

Welcome to the City, I suppose.

[identity profile] orbo-knight.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Is there any other information you can provide regarding these curses or other residents?

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Have you been given the guide as yet? There was a guide sent around for a while. I'm not sure if it's even of any use anymore, though.

[identity profile] orbo-knight.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't but I was looking for more firsthand information, anyway. Guides are useful only to a point.

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
If you're looking for more firsthand information, there's almost too much to tell.

[identity profile] orbo-knight.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I like to be fully aware of who and what I might come into contact with while I'm here, however long that is.

[identity profile] orbo-knight.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
You mentioned an eyeball as well?

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it was mailed to me--whether as a message or a joke, I'm not entirely certain. But I was sent an eye, a relic of a murder.

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
I've no idea. A woman, but I've no idea who.

[identity profile] orbo-knight.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
I see.

Is mine!
