Ah ha! There it is. I knew I remembered. I daresay I'm getting rather good with these devices...
Father? I am terribly sorry to bother you, even like this. I hope you'll excuse me. I remember these devices from the times we've been here before, and in the past I wrote you letters on them. I think this might be a better way.
I see that we've come to this town again, though I don't know where you are at the moment. I'm sure you're...attending to whatever business you have here. I know I shouldn't expect to see you so soon, since it isn't even past noon yet.
I wanted to tell you that I am still in the theatre where we always stay when we come here. I wonder, Father, if you know the owner, perhaps? And I'll wait here for you, unless you tell me otherwise. I know you don't like for me to wander about, even in the gardens at home. So I'll wait here for you, as I should.
I'm especially glad you decided to bring Riff this time, Father. At least, I think you did. I believe I saw him last night. Thank you. The other times, when I've been here by myself, it's been very troublesome without him. You found me once looking for him. I remember. So thank you for bringing him along this time. It makes matters very much easier for you, I think.
But, Father, please forgive me, but I would like to know why we keep coming to this town. Is there someone you know here? It's a very strange town, especially today. There's all kinds of peculiar things to read on this machine, and if I look out the window, I see even more. There are creatures in the streets, and perhaps even mad people. And I'm sure there are secrets everywhere--
Father, I know you are a doctor... Is this...town...like an asylum for the mad?
... ... ...
I'm sorry. I know it isn't my place to ask these things. I'm sure I'll see you by this evening, Father. I'll wait here for you until then.
((A moment of fumbling, a small click, and he assumes he's turned the device off. How wrong he is:))

No one here, save for me!
I remember I met a little girl here who said she was my sister, and another little girl who named me the 'Earl of Secrets'. I like that title, though I like my real title better--or the one that will be mine. And I met another who had lost her pet mouse, and a boy who'd lost his pet lamb--he was the one who said he'd met an angel, though I'm still not sure I believe that. They can't have been mad.
But... I am all alone... And Father surely won't be back until at least six o'clock, unless he goes somewhere to dinner--it could be either. I'm not sure if I'm to be fed--I suppose Riff's left in charge of that. I think I should find him again first.
Hmm...
I bet there are secrets passages here, like the ones at home. And I am the Earl of Secrets, after all.
((Some excited sounds, a pair of small feet hitting the floor, some shuffling, a closet door opening.))
Now, what will I need if I'm to explore? Shall I--ah ha! These will be perfect, along with this satchel. And this for--ah!
((That last sound isn't excitement. That's a hiss, a gasp, from sudden, sharp pain. All the sounds of excitement and eagerness collapse very suddenly. The boy's voice calls out now, down the hall, around the corner, wherever it needs to go to find the one it seeks.))
Riff! Riff, I broke one open again... I need you here! Riff, where are you? Come here at once! I-- If I soil this shirt...
((Realizing the device is on...))
Oh n--
((A quick, scattering, panicked shuffle, a grab for the device.))

[ooc: Little Cain is little! I've lost count on the incidences of little!Cain at this point, but, suffice to say, he's about ten years old here, has met Riff, but has not gotten rebellious quite yet--he's just starting to break out of his shell, but he's afraid of it all too. Be nice to him ;3; He's pathetic. He also vaguely remembers the City--since he's been here so many times. He just doesn't quite get it all.]

I want to explore this theatre. There must be secret passages and everything else here. And I want to explore the town. There's a square full of people--all sorts of people, and animals too. I want to see this place that Father has sent us to. He must have had some reason to have sent us here. There's a great deal to see here, Riff.
[action]
[...this is Riff hoping that, tomorrow, Cain will be back to normal, but if he isn't he'll still keep his promise. He'll take care of his master.]
[action]
[However, Cain may sneak out a bit before tomorrow. Just because he feels like he can.]

[With another smile, Riff begins to help little!Cain with his clothes again so he can be properly dressed to go out and explore]

Let's pick up Miss Merry and we can all go together. What do you say, Master Cain? I'm afraid she is trapped in the form of a doll today. This City certainly is an odd place, you see.
[action]
[action]
It is a strange place and it simply has the power to do things like that once in a while. Not to worry; she will be herself in no time. And until then, we will keep her safe, won't we?
[action]
I suppose that explains why I met a talking cat earlier today. Yes, of course we'll keep her safe.

[Have another smile and a hand on your shoulder, Cain, guiding you toward Merry's room]

[Because, really, if Riff had been a dog with Alexis around... Riff might not have been around for very long.]
