Rosella, it's over. I promised you I'd send word when it was over, and it is.

I'm back in the opera house again and I'm not injured--not enough to speak of, anyway. I think Riff's quite capable of handling the scratches I've got at the moment. And those monsters, those harpies, are all but finished. There may yet be a handful here and there, but their real lairs are destroyed, along with most all of the creatures in them. It wasn't a neat sort of battle, but we did win it.

You saw the lights in the sky last night--if you were still awake then, of course. It was hardly early in the evening, I know, and I wouldn't blame you if you didn't see them, but I was awake and I was glad to see them. We'd been fighting all night by then, nearly, and there was a change in the very air, I thought, as soon as I saw them. The last of the monsters were destroyed, their lairs were pulled down, and, it seemed to me, any more of those creatures who seemed to want to come in were stopped--they collided with an unseen blockade, which can only suggest one thing: the barriers were restored, as the 'deities' had suggested they might be.

I don't know if they're the same barriers as before after what those 'deities' seemed to suggest, but they are working--at least against the harpies--so I'll take them for that, and it means this ordeal must be nearly over.

Merry and Riff alike are well, as is everyone else in the opera house, and the opera house itself. We made it a fortress, once again, and it served us well. It may not have the same sorts of guards and shields around it that the Warehouse does, but it does well enough with bars and locks and all of us watching from the inside.

You're safe and well, I'm sure. There's been no shortage of injuries, I know, but at least everyone who's gone into hiding could begin to come out again. We'll recollect ourselves, take in whatever damage has been done, perhaps see about restoring things, and perhaps even the 'deities' will lift a finger to help this time.

We may very well have to endure a curse in the next few days, but at least we won't be both cursed and attacked in the same day.

And I never in my life thought that I'd defend this place against attacks and invasion not once but twice. For all I hate it, I suppose it's a familiar sort of horror, which is somehow better than the unfamiliar sort.

It's a strange thought, to think that one might fight and die for the sake of a place one hates.

[ooc: Geeze, if I keep on with these short(ish--stfu) posts, I'm going to start worrying about myself D: Suffice to say, Cain was out at the harpie hunt and saw the lights. He probably intended this note to be for Rosella only, but fuck coding. He's tired.]
