Entry 385; Day 444
Mar. 8th, 2010 10:34 amIs everyone done playing matchmaker, I hope? And not only matching up people who are in the City, but people who were in the City (and are no longer), people who have never been in the City, and people who cannot be in the City because they're not real. I would have expected there to be some kind of limit to these things, but apparently not.
Nor was there any logic to it either. Pairs were formed based on real affection, perceived affection, genuine dislike, mere conversations, the fervent belief of the one making the pair, likes or dislikes, hobbies, even hair colour. Yes, I know, in my time I've heard any number of girls say a couple is more charming because they suit each other or they match each other or he's dark and she's fair. You'd think they were setting up pairs of carriage horses with their talk. And I didn't expect to see it again--declaring a pair good because their hair is the same colour or opposing colours is about as ridiculous as saying a pair is good because their names rhyme. I'm not saying I wasn't amused by it, only that it was completely stupid if one stopped to think about it.
I didn't like busybodies or matchmakers in my own time and I certainly don't like the completely ridiculous version of them that curse brought on.
And I never thought I'd have to explain so many times in my life that I am not marrying Rosella--not just yesterday, but time after time.
I do still maintain that, at least in novels, there's often a kind of affection in animosity. I don't know how it works, but the writers seem to include it all the time. Think of 'The Taming of the Shrew', for example.
On that subject--books, I mean--I never did share the results of my experiments in trying not to think while in the library, or trying to look without looking, or however you'd like to put it. Truth be told, it wasn't quite as successful as I had hoped. It's quite a bit harder not to think than one might expect.
Perhaps I ought to find an idiot and send him in and see what comes of that. But I don't really have the inclination for it. I think at that point it's more trouble than it's worth.
Unless someone knows an idiot they can recommend for the job.
And, is it me, or is it beginning to feel a bit more like spring? We've all been saying that spring will be coming soon, but I think it finally feels like it.

[ooc: And with this, I declare myself officially off hiatus. I am going to work in a little while, so replies may be a little slow for a bit. But I shall return! No, Cain was not affected by the curse yesterday, but he found it rather amusing~]
