I was asked recently how long I'd been in the City. It's been one year, two months, and five days, I believe, though it was a leap year and I may have counted wrong.

Regardless, it's been 432 days since I arrived here. I knew there would be a reason for me to count the days I'd been here. Now I see it: this way I can see it stretching away infinitely.

I wonder what happens to one if one dies of old age in the City. Is one resurrected again? Is one resurrected old? If one was ill, does one proceed to die and die and die again each day? I know some have been resurrected as they were when they first came into the City. That would be a peculiar form of eternal life.

It's a delicate question, perhaps, but do those who have died within the City age? Perhaps they don't, since I've heard they don't have a heartbeat and don't need to breathe.

And talking to Kaoru today reminded me how I'd wanted to escape this place for so long. It's never an easy thing for those who remain in the City, but it's what we all want, to go home. I even once befriended someone investigating ways to get out. He managed to throw himself back into his own world, but found himself here again almost as quickly. It was a brilliant idea, but frustrating that it didn't work.

So I've been here, with no return home, for far more than a year. No matter what, I can't find a way home--not even for myself, let alone the three of us, because if I go home, Merry and Riff will come with me. Come to think of it, both of them have been sent home before. I'm the only one who's been here the entire time. If the City survives on misery, I have been supporting it far to well for far too long.

How long has anyone else been in the City?

At least there aren't any lions being kept in the bathroom or scarecrows standing in the hallway. The lion didn't cause any real damage, luckily, and Merry seemed to enjoy seeing it. Thanks to Fakir for removing the scarecrow. I don't know that it meant any harm, but it was peculiar the way it turned to follow me as I walked by it. And now two days of quiet--which won't last, we all know it.

Summer evenings are good for walks, so long as you get home by dark in this place, if anyone would care to join me.

[ooc: Uh...obligatory OOC note? He's at loose ends, nothing's completed, nothing's moved, frustration sets in. He's gonna go take a walk.]
